The “Blue Factory” in Luqiao Turns Marine Plastic Waste into Treasure
News Introduction: The “Blue Factory” in Luqiao refers to the comprehensive utilization project of marine plastic waste promoted by Taizhou Qiju Renewable Resources Co., Ltd. As a key part of the “Blue Cycle” and a national pilot base, it has become the first enterprise in the city to obtain dual international certifications for collecting and processing Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP).
In this project, consumers only need to scan the OBP traceability code on the product with their mobile phones to clearly see the “life cycle” of the plastic particles, including the type of marine waste as the raw material, the collection port, and the date, realizing full visual tracking from the ocean to the shelves.
To collect marine plastic waste widely, Qiju Company has set up collection points across Taizhou, attracting many individual ship waste recyclers along the coast. Fishermen are encouraged to bring back and sell discarded fishing nets, crab nets, and floating balls. These recycled waste marine plastics will undergo multiple rigorous processes such as crushing, cleaning, screening, and melting to finally be “transformed” into plastic particles for production enterprises.
Moreover, the company has invested 80 million yuan in a 60,000-ton annual plastic waste recycling and technical renovation project, covering three major treatment areas: marine waste plastics, agricultural waste mulch films, and household waste plastics. Among them, the annual treatment capacity of marine waste plastics is about 20,000 tons. It is estimated that for every 10,000 tons of recycled plastic particles produced, 60,000 tons of crude oil can be saved and 25,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced. It has achieved remarkable results in resource conservation and environmental protection, truly turning marine plastic waste into treasure and promoting the coordinated development of ecological, social, and economic values.
